"Decoding MiCA" - A practical guide to MiCA and its data requirements.

EthVC is back in July 2022, at EthCC[5], with a better, faster, new format!

March 23rd, 2022

EthVC is back for more in 2022 and the Kaiko team is delighted to share with you an updated format. Taking feedback from past editions, we are working on again delivering the best venture capital event in the blockchain community!

EthVC is the venture capital track of the Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC[5]), the largest annual European Ethereum event focused on technology and community with 1,500+ attendees and 250+ speakers happening in-person in Paris on July 19th-21st, 2022 (announcement here).

In partnership with Ethereum France and for the past 3 years, Kaiko has organized a “VC Track”, designed for the blockchain industry. The goal is to enable a more efficient way for blockchain startups to connect with investors looking to deploy capital in the industry.

Last year, we welcomed 30 startups (selected from 100+ applicants) and more than 40 VCs looking to deploy capital. EthVC 20 and EthVC 21 batches included the companies below, which have since raised more than $200M and been valued at more than $1B:

This year, EthVC will again feature 30 carefully selected startups, technically vetted by the EthCC team and commercially by the Kaiko team, and the founders will present short/focused 5-min pitches to about 40 selected VCs. We’re compressing all presentations in 2 sessions of 2h with 15 electrifying pitches during each session.

During the following days, the VC Pitch Room will remain accessible to all participating VCs and Founders for scheduling 1:1 follow-ups and more in-depth discussions. We want to make sure investors get a speedy overview and can choose which companies they would like to delve into. We’ll provide good coffee and notepads in a quiet room which can be a safe haven for focused individual conversations, within the intense and buzzing EthCC conference.

Put simply, here is what our new format looks like:

Day 1: Reverse Pitches (VCs- you pitch!)
10am → 5pm: VCs are pitching their blockchain strategy and investment thesis, this content is open to all EthCC attendees as an official track of the conference.
7pm: Kaiko VIP Cocktail Dinner Party at Café Marly, in front of the Louvre.

Day 2 & 3: Startup Pitch Days!
9am→ 10:30am Welcome and informal networking
10:30am → 12:30pm: 15 pitches, including Coffee & Croissant breaks
2pm → 6pm: VC Pitch Room reserved for VC/Founders 1:1 meetings

6pm: On the evening of the last day, there will be a cocktail reception organized by one of our sponsors, open to all startups and participating investors.

Conferences such as EthCC are incredibly vibrant, and it can be challenging to find some quiet space for more in-depth conversations, so we decided to create a “safe haven” away from all excitement by dedicating the VC Pitch Room for 1:1 meetings between founders and investors during the afternoons. There you’ll be able to grab a refreshment, to breathe a bit and to conduct focused meetings.

There will be two part of the startup selection process: a first assessment by the Kaiko team on the “investability” of the project, equity story, financials, business model, etc. and a technical review by the EthCC technical jury team, thereby guaranteeing investors that all aspect has been pre-validated and that the project has strong legs from both business and tech standpoints. The call for speakers will be open soon and startups will soon be able to apply.

There is also an application process for investors, as we want to ensure that the number of attendees is limited and that we gather top-tier VCs that are willing and ready to deploy capital in the space. Applications for VCs are open and will be limited to 40 in-person attendees (more info here).

We are very excited to see what this year’s edition has in store for us and we hope to see you in person in July!
